Startimes UPL: Karisa, Ekbad on target as Vipers edge Gaddafi in their opener

Champions of Uganda Premier League 2022/2023 Vipers SC started their journey of title defence with a narrow away win against Gaddafi FC.

Captain Milton Karisa and new signing Salem Ekbad scored as Vipers dug deep to secure a 2-1 win.

Vipers who were the visitors appeared a better side, creating scoring chances and possessing well.

This later paid off in the 27th minute when Yunus Sentamu through passed Karisa who easily chipped goalkeeper Dennis Ochieng.

In the 41st minute, goalkeeper Jack Komakech played out a long ball that failed in hands of Bright Anukani who shoot but goalkeeper Dennis Ochieng saved though Ekbad later rebounded after Gaddafi FC’S defenders failed to clear.

In the second half, Gaddafi FC recharged and later got a consolation through a penalty spot by Benson Muhindo.

In other games, Wakiso Giants were humbled by Maroons with a 3-0 score at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium.

URA FC played out a goalless draw with UPDF at Bombo Military Grounds while Busoga United picked up a crucial away win against Arua hills at Paridi Stadium.

Vipers will have their next game on Thursday against Arua hills while Gaddafi FC will be taking on URA FC.
