Is Mauricio Pochettino nearing his end at Chelsea?
September 25, 2023
Chelsea coach Mauricio Pochettino is coming under increased pressure due to the continued dismal performances of the club. This followed a 1-0 loss yesterday to Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues finished the game with 10 men after right back Malo Gusto was given his matching orders after a VAR intervention. Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins managed to give Unai Emery’s side the only goal of the game after a brilliant pass from Mousa Diaby.
Chelsea has now played 27 games in 2023. They have recorded 13 defeats, 9 draws and 5 wins. Under Mauricio Pochettino, they have played 6 games, lost three, drawn twice and won once.
After a heavy summer spending spree, the London club hoped to mount up a strong challenge than last season when they finished 12th. Chelsea has spent over a billion pounds in transfer fees ever since American businessman Todd Boehly took over from Roman Abramovich.
Pochettino who has coached teams such as Tottenham Hotspurs and PSG is now under increased pressure for results lest he will get sacked. Speaking after the game, he said that this is a project and process.
The earlier his bosses and fans grasp it the better. He added that it’s going to take time to build a strong team to start producing results.
“Yes, of course the owners are disappointed — but at the same time they need to support the plan”. “We have the squad we have, we need try to build the confidence and give them all of the support they need.”
Chelsea now sit in the 14th position with just 5 points from 6 games. They play Brighton midweek in the Carabao cup before a trip to Fulham in the league on Monday.
