Bukayo Saka beleives this is the year for Arsenal to lift the league

October 2, 2024

After Arsenal defeated Ligue 1 champion Paris St. Germain 2-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday, winger Bukayo Saka declared that his team may go all the way and end its 21-year wait for a Premier League title this season. Arsenal was second in the 2022–2023 season and led the Premier League title chase until the very end of the previous campaign, when they lost to Manchester City once more.

This season, the North London team is competitive; currently ranked third in the league, their convincing win over PSG, the French powerhouse, demonstrated their title credentials with goals from Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka.

“I don’t want to put too much pressure on us but I do think that this is the year (that we can win the title),” Saka told CBS Sports.

“I think we’ve been close the last two years, and we’re getting closer, but this hopefully will be the year.”

Saka, who has made a name for himself at Arsenal and led the team in scoring during the previous Premier League season, stated that the club’s near-misses have fueled his desire for achievement.

“[In] previous years, I’ve come runners-up a lot. It’s just that spirit in me that I want to win this season, and of course, I believe in myself a lot,” the 23-year-old told Amazon Prime.

“With those two things, it helps. We believe in ourselves, we believe we’re a top team. We showed that tonight (against PSG). I did tell the boys we have to make a statement when big teams are coming to the Emirates.”

On Saturday, Arsenal will play a league game against Southampton, who is currently ranked 19th.
