The Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) has finally pulled the plug on Uganda Cranes headcoach Milutin Sredojevic aka Micho. A statement released by FUFA revealed that the two parties have decided to end their working partnership with immediate effect.
“Today, Thursday 14th September 2023, FUFA and Mr. Milutin Sredojevic agreed to mutually end the existing employment contract between the two parties. FUFA appreciates all efforts and commitment by Mr. Milutin during his period as Head coach of Uganda Cranes.”
The Serbian joined the national team for his second spell in August 2021. His football decisions however have always been of concern to Ugandans.
Things like the players called up to the national team, formation and type of football played were those that earned him lots of criticism.
Micho’s main target was to secure the Cranes to the 2023 AFCON tournament but they narrowly missed out to neighbors, Tanzania in a group they should have qualified. This left citizens calling for his sack.
The former SC Villa manager first coached the national team between 2013-2017. It was him that helped the Cranes for the AFCON after almost 40 years of trying.
Unfortunately he left before the Cranes could play the final tournament and was replaced with Sébastien Desabre.
With the FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifiers coming up in November, FUFA will surely embark on the hunt of a new coach.
