Countries will start preparing for the 2023 AFCON tournament that will happen in January 2024 in Ivory Coast. This is after the draw for the group stages being held.
Group A seems like will be the trickiest as Nigeria who last won the AFCON tournament in 2013 against Burkina Faso were placed against hosts, Ivory Coast.
The two African footballing giants will clash in the opening game of the tournament. The other countries in the group are Equatorial Guinea and Guinea Bissau.
Guinea Bissau was in the same group as the Super Eagles of the qualifying stage and handed them their only loss out of the 6 games.
Group B will be a tough one too with record winners being placed alongside West African giants Ghana. Cape Verde and Mozambique complete the other two slots. Defending champions Senegal were pitted against their neighbours, Cameroon, Gambia and Guinea.
Algeria, Burkina Faso, Angola and Mauritania complete Group D. In Group E, Tunisia, Mali, South Africa and Namibia fill up the spots. World Cup semi finalists, Morocco are in Group F alongside DR Congo, Zambia and Tanzania.
The tournament is slated to take place 13th January to 11th February.
