Mikel Arteta charged by the FA after comments made on the Newcastle game

The Football Association (FA) has revealed how Arsenal coach, Mikel Arteta has been charged for breach of conduct of the FA’s rules. This follows his comments made in the aftermath of Arsenal’s loss to Newcastle.

Eddie Howe’s side managed to win the game with a controversial 1-0 win courtesy of a goal scored by Anthony Gordon. However, there were three incidents that could have led to the goal being rules out.

The ball being out of play, Joelinton’s foul on Gabriel Magalhaes and a possible offside by Gordon were all overlooked. Mikel Arteta in his post match press conference slammed the match officials calling them an embarrassment.

“I feel embarrassed but I have to be the one now coming here to try to defend the club. And please ask for help, because it’s an absolute disgrace that this goal is allowed it’s an absolute disgrace.”

Arsenal also released a statement backing their manager. And days later as the Gunners were about to play Sevilla. The Spaniard said that he stood by his comments about these match officials.

Now the FA has said that the 41 year old has been charged “with a breach of FA Rule E3.1”.

A statement from the FA read that “Mikel Arteta has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3.1 following comments that he made in media interviews after Arsenal’s Premier League game against Newcastle United on Saturday 4 November.

“It’s alleged that his comments constitute misconduct as they are insulting towards match officials and/or detrimental to the game and/or bring the game into disrepute.”
