Sadness, fury and shock as the Uganda Cranes withdraw from the CHAN tournament

December 12, 2022

The President of FUFA Eng Moses Magogo has sadly and shockingly revealed how the Uganda Cranes have been forced to withdraw from the CHAN tournament over financial constraints.

Taking to his Twitter page, Magogo revealed how they have been left with no choice but to withdraw the team.

He further said that the Cranes team now faces the same destiny as the U23 side which was withdrawn from the AFCON qualifiers a while ago.

Magogo blamed this on the Ministry of Finance which has failed to release the necessary funds as approved by Parliament.

He concluded by apologizing to the players and staff who put in a lot of efforts to qualify for the tournament but it’s time to face the reality.

“It is sad. Like for the U23, we are left with no further option but to withdraw the

from CHAN finals because
@mofpedU
has not provided the funds as appropriated by

The sanctions to Uganda will affect the future if we dont take the hard decision now Sorry for the players and coaches who qualified the team but it is the moment to face the reality.”

First and foremost, the CHAN tournament is for home based players and the Cranes were going to take part in it for a sixth consecutive time.

The team was to get underway on December 21st and had been placed in Group B alongside the likes of DR Congo, Ivory Coast and Senegal.

Enroute to qualifying, the Cranes has emphatically beaten neighbors, Tanzania home and away.

It’s waited for now to see if there will be any positive development in regards to the issue.
