The Uganda Cranes which represents Uganda in international football tournaments has been around for about 97 years.
It was formed on 1st May 1926 and played it’s first game against Kenya drawing 1-1.
The Cranes would later qualify for their first AFCON tournament in 1962 which was the third edition of the tournament.
This tournament had just 4 teams and the Cranes finished in the 4th position.
Over the years, the National team has had several iconic players play for it.
Below we take a look at the 10 most capped players for the Uganda Cranes.
- Godfrey Walusumbi
He is the most capped player with 105 caps in which he netted 3 goals from 2009-2019.
- Emma Okwi
He is the current skipper of the National team and has played 93 times for the National team.
Okwi first starred for the Cranes in 2009 and is expected to add more caps since he’s still active.
- Simeon Masaba
The leftback played for the Cranes an astonishing 88 times.
This was between 2002-2013 and also netted 6 goals within that time frame.
- Tony Mawejje
The midfield maestro represented the Cranes 86 times netting 8 goals between 2003-2022.
- Denis Onyango
The Mamelodi Sundowns shot stopper played for the Cranes 82 times between 2005-2021.
- Hassan Wasswa
The rugged deep lying midfield represented Uganda on the turf 81 times between 2006-2019.
He didn’t score any goal.
- Andy Mwesigwa
The former SC Villa defender represented the Cranes 75 times netting 7 goals between 2003-2014.
- Farouk Miya
He’s the second player after Emma Okwi that is still active.
Farouk Miya has so far played for Uganda Cranes 76 times bagging 23 goals since 2014.
- Geoffrey Massa
The mercurial talisman played for the Cranes 72 times, netted 22 goals between 2005-2017.
- Denis Iguma
Our list is rounded off by KCCA defender Denis Iguma who is the other player still active on this list.
He’s so far played 72 times for the Cranes between 2012 up to now scoring only 1 goal.
