Video: UPDF- Bright Stars game almost turns into a fist-fight
March 21, 2023
A Uganda Premier League game yesterday between UPDF and Soltilo Bright Stars became chaotic after UPDF finding the back of the net.
Jibril Badru Nsimbe scored a first half goal for the hosts in the 38th minute.
A cross into the box saw Soltilo Bright Stars goalkeeper Hassan Matovu come out to punch the ball out of his box.
He did and landed awkwardly on the floor of the pitch.
The ref didn’t stop play although the goalkeeper remained down and UPDF scored in an empty net.
As the referee was walking away from the scene where Matovu was, the goalkeeper attempted to trip him.
This angered the referee who in turn pulled out a red card and sent Matovu off.
Soltilo Bright Stars’ players surrounded the referee and most appeared as if they wanted to turn violent before their mates calmed them down.
Despite UPDF having a one man more advantage, they couldn’t bag a second goal.
The military men were also reduced to 10 men at Bombo Military Grounds in the second half after a second yellow card was shown to defender Moses Kiggundu.
Bright Stars came close to equalizing but couldn’t find the back of the net.
Emmanuel Loki, Nelson Ssenkatuka and Dennis Kaka all had chances to score for the visitors but couldn’t find the much needed goal.
The win was so vital for UPDF FC as it put them to 15 points into 12th position and out of the relegation zone.
Bright Stars on the other hand remained with 24 points on 6th position.
