FUFA president Eng Moses Magogo provides latest update about Namboole stadium

April 25, 2023

Eng Moses Magogo has come out to provide the latest update about the status of Namboole stadium.

It was expected that the stadium renovation would be completed in time to facilitate the Uganda Cranes upcoming fixtures.

However it seems this won’t be the case as the works are far from complete. Magogo has now revealed that the Federation has chosen Cameroon as the destination from which to hold their upcoming games.

Today 25th April was the deadline for FUFA to submit a stadium from which to hold the upcoming CAF games.

Furthermore, Magogo said that the Cranes have a friendly game against the Indomitable Lions. Therefore the choice of the venue makes the more sense.

Besides the works on the stadium also won’t be complete by June. They are also slow and insensitive according to Magogo.

The FUFA president also called upon the government to strip the contract from the UPDF Engineering Brigade.

This is due to the fact that they lack the necessary qualifications. Failure to so so will lead to shoddy work Magogo added.

“๐๐š๐ฆ๐›๐จ๐จ๐ฅ๐ž ๐’๐ญ๐š๐๐ข๐ฎ๐ฆ ๐–๐จ๐ซ๐ค๐ฌ ๐ฐ๐š๐ง๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐  Today 25th April, being the deadline for confirmation to CAF, FUFA has opted for Cameroon. We also plan to have 1 international friendly match against Cameroon in the same FIFA window. This is Namboole shall not be ready by June as the work is so slow and insensitive to the cries of Ugandans despite MOFPED releasing the necessary funds over one year ago The contractors (UPDF Engineering Brigade) and the Supervisors (Min of Works) do not have the necessary experience and expertise to undertake stadium construction GoU should urgently cancel the contracts of the contractors and supervisors and immediately procure experienced service providers in stadium construction, even if it means being obtained from outside Uganda. We are likely to have a delayed project, substandard work, and without value for money.”

It should be noted that Uganda it’s previous AFCON qualifier against Tanzania from Egypt.

The Cranes still have Niger and Algeria to play to earn qualification.
