The captain of the Uganda Cranes Emmanuel Okwi has landed a new club in the Iraqi Premier League.
Okwi put pen to paper for Erbil SC which plays in the top tier of the Iraq League.
He joins Erbil from another Iraqi side Zawra FC.
Emmanuel Okwi’s arrival was announced on Erbil’s social media handles.
He’s expected to get into action right away as Erbil play Al Basra on Friday 27th 2023.
His signature makes him the fourth Ugandan to play for the club.
The others to play for Erbil are Sula Matovu, Ivan Bukenya and Allan Kateregga aka the Dancing Rasta.
Erbil is now the eighth club the 30 year old Okwi is playing for outside Uganda.
He’s played for the likes of Simba SC, Young Africans, Etoile Du Sahel (Tunisia), Sonderjyske (Denmark), Al Ittihad (Egypt) and Kiyovu FC in Rwanda.
Okwi has also played for SC Villa on three different occasions in the Uganda Premier League.
Currently Erbil which was formed on November 3rd 1968 lies in the 15th position with 12 points after 12 games.
The club hosts their home games at a 25,000 seater stadium known as Franso Hariri Stadium.
