Uganda Cranes picks up first win in 2023 CHAN

The Uganda Cranes picked up their first win in the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament thereby boosting their chances of qualifying for the next round.

The Cranes managed to beat West African giants, Senegal by a goal to nil.

This was netted by Vipers and Cranes captain at the tournament Milton Karisa.

The Lions of Teranga could have taken the lead before but URA goalkeeper Nafian Alionzi stepped up and saved the spotkick in the 26th minute.

Karisa however in the 33rd minite gave the Cranes the lead after an assist by Kenneth Ssemakula.

The first half ended with the Cranes in the lead.

On return, the West Africans started launching attacks against the Cranes for an equalizer but the Ugandans stood their ground.

Micho made a substitution in the 77th minute as he brought on Travis Mutyaba for Rogers Mato.

Abdul Karim Watambala who was dropped for this game to the bench was also brought on.

Senegal was dealt a huge blow in the 83rd minute after `Mame Libasse Laye Ngom was shown a red card.

This helped to ease the pressure a little bit off the Cranes.

Micho’s side held onto their lead for the 90 minutes and also the additional 8 minutes that were added.

Uganda now leads Group B with 4 points after this win and a draw in the first game against DR Congo.

Senegal is second with DR Congo and Ivory Coast following suite.

The Cranes now just need a draw in their last game against Ivory Coast to guarantee qualification to the next round.
