February 21, 2023

Jackson Mayanja the coach of the Uganda Hippos has come out to applaud his team. This is after they picked up their first win in Group B in the ongoing AFCON tournament in Egypt.

The Hippos beat Central African Republic 2-1 in the first game of Group B.

Uganda Hippos’ goals were scored by the team captain Isma Mugulusi and John Paul Dembe.

Mayanja said that the first game in such tournaments is always difficult to win.

However, his boys were able to dominate the game despite most of them making their debuts.

“My lads played a good game and the first game is not always easy at big tournaments like this. It’s a big stage for the players and we won against a good team”.

“Like l said this is a big stage and most of these boys are playing at this stage for the first time. We were a bit shaky in the first half but when the nerves settled, the boys dominated and that tells our performance in the second half “.

The former KCCA FC and Cranes attacking midfielder went ahead to tell how he expects more from his team as the tournament progresses.

“The big stages are always difficult in the first match but as we go on we will get better. We have alot to deliver but expression wise some of them did that today”.

The other Group B game was won by Congo Brazzaville by 2-1 against South Sudan.

The team will be back in action on 23rd, Thursday as they clash off with Congo Brazzaville.
