It is still possible- Mikel Arteta on his side clinching the league title

April 27, 2023

Mikel Arteta‘s side Arsenal were dealt a huge blow last night in their quest to win the English Premier League title after being thoroughly thumped by Manchester City.

Goals from John Stones, Erling Halaand and a brace from Kevin de Bruyne handed Pep Guardiola‘s side the pole position to retain their title.

Arsenal’s only consolation was scored by Rob Holding. The Gunners are still top of the table with 5 games to go.

Manchester City now have 73 points 2 behind the Gunners but with 7 games to go. All that Guardiola’s team need to do is win all their remaining games to clinch the title.

Arteta however said that he’s been in England and in the EPL long enough to know that shocking things can happen.

“The stats at the start of the season said we’d finish sixth or seventh and we are where we are. There’s still five games to go. I’ve been in this country 22 years and things change a lot. They’re an exceptional team but we are an exceptional team as well.”

The Spaniard also added that the better team won the game.

“The better team won the game. They were probably at their best in the first half and we weren’t at our level. In terms of the basics we didn’t do it.”

The former Everton and Arsenal midfielder says that he now needs to restore confidence in his players.

“I don’t know what is going to be required. For sure we have to lift the players up first because they suffered tonight. We need to do everything that we’ve done so far so well and start winning.”

Arsenal play Chelsea next on Tuesday while Manchester City will visit Fulham on Sunday.
