Manchester City and Pep Guardiola were crowned champions of the UEFA Champions League after coming so close in the past seasons. A 1-0 win was enough to seal the win for the Citizens courtesy of Rodrigo Hernandez Cascante.
Manchester City were not at their best but finally managed to grind out the win. Inter Milan had the best of chances especially in the dying minutes of the game but Ederson was having his best day in the office.
Well UEFA has gone ahead to hand out some individual awards and among these was the Champions League player of the season. Many would have expected the sensational Erling Braut Halaand or the Belgian midfield maestro, Kevin De Bruyne.
However it was none of these but the match winner, Rodri. The Spanish player has been unbelievable at Manchester City’s axis in their record breaking treble season. He netted 2 goals but these were all crucial in dismantling their opponents.
One was against Bayern Munich in the quarter finals while the other was in the final and eventual match winner. Napoli and Georgian player Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was named the young player of the season.
The final UEFA Champions League team of the season had 7 Manchester City players, 2 Real Madrid players and one from the runners up Inter Milan.
