Uganda Hippos look for quarter final spot as they take on Congo Brazzaville

February 23, 2023

The Uganda Hippos who are currently taking part in the AFCON U20 tournament in Egypt are set to take on Congo Brazzaville today.

The game will take place at the Suez Canal Authority stadium at 8pm EAT.

A win over their opponents will earn the Hippos a slot to the quarter finals.

It will also cement their position on top of Group B.

The Hippos coach Jackson Mayanja talked about the importance of this game.

“The first game is behind us and Thursday poses a different challenge for us. We have tried to preach this to the boys and I’m hopeful we will come out victorious,” he said in the pre-match press briefing.

“Winning our first game was important but we believe the second game is equally important for us to stand a chance of progressing to the next level,” added the coach.

Hippos midfielder Titus Ssematimba also talked about the clash against Congo Brazzaville.

He said that this game will definitely be tougher than the one against Central African Republic.

“They (Congo) won their first game like we did. Therefore, they are not a pushover for us. We have to work harder and do better than our previous game.”

The boys won their first game 2-1 courtesy of goals from Captain Isma Mugulusi and John Paul Dembe.

The four teams which reach the semi finals will represent Africa in the U20 World Cup in Indonesia between May-June.
