English Premier League table leaders Arsenal look like they won’t be with French defender William Saliba for their league clash against Leeds.
The Gunners will be back in action as they host Leeds at the Emirates stadium following the conclusion of the international break.
Saliba has been one of the Gunners top performers forming a formidable centre back with Brazilian Gabriel Magalhaes.
The 21 year old was forced off the pitch just after 21 minutes during the Europa League loss to Sporting Lisbon.
Consequently Saliba missed the EPL 4-1 win against Crystal Palace and also pulled out of the French squad.
Saliba won’t be part of the Gunners match day squad against Leeds.
His return date is not yet clear for now. Rob Holding is expected to fill in for the former Marseille defender.
Mikel Arteta will also have January signing Jakub Kiwior available for selection.
Arteta after the Palace game was quoted as saying;
“We hope Willy is going to be better news,” the Spaniard said in his post-Palace press conference. “Again We have to wait to tomorrow to get a better picture.
“We lost players, we lost Gabi for four months, we lost Thomas for one and a half months. We lost Alex Zinchenko for one and a half months, we lost Mo Elneny for six to eight months. Now we’ve lost Eddie and Tomiyasu or Saliba. Everybody has to give a bit more. It’s not a secret. If we want to maintain that level we have to give more and Rob is clear example of what we needed today.”
Eddie Nketiah was also not spotted in training and is expected to miss the game.
Thomas Partey and Kieran Tierney should all be available as they trained with the squad while Mohammed Elneny remains a long term absentee.
