April 20, 2023

Uganda Premier League club KCCA FC last night announced their former player, coach and captain Jackson ‘Mia Mia’ Mayanja as their new head coach on an interim basis.

Jackson Mayanja is expected to turn around the club’s misfortunes they have faced in the previous games under Morleg Byekwaso.

Byekwaso another ex KCCA player resigned a few days citing player influence at the club.

Prior to joining KCCA, Mayanja hasn’t been with a club. He was the headcoach of the Uganda Hippos (U20) who unfortunately crashed out of the previous AFCON U20 tournament in Egypt.

Mayanja is regarded as one of the best footballers in Ugandan history.

He made his debut for the Kasasiro boys in 1987-92 before moving to Al Masry in Egypt.

Later he played for Tunisian side Esperance before making a maiden return to KCCA in 1996 where he was made the skipper.

He led the club to a CAF Confederations Cup semi final berth in 1997.

Besides the 54 year old coached KCCA in 2005.

Some of his honors as per the KCCA website are:- Won two league titles with KCC FC (1991 and 1997). Two Uganda Cup titles also with KCC FC (1987 and 1990). He won three Cecafa titles with The Uganda Cranes (1990, 1992 and 1996). Was Voted Footballer of the year twice by USPA (1993 and 1996).

Further KCCA said it had parted ways with the previous technical team.
“The Club has parted company with Kaddu Badru Mukasa (Assistant Manager), Richard Malinga (Assistant Coach / Junior Team Coach) and Walugembe Fahadie Yahaya (Scout).”

Apparently Mayanja will work with the technical team below to try and revive the club’s league title hopes
