February 14, 2023

Four teams will be in action today in the Stanbic Uganda Cup and each team will be looking towards making it to the Round of 16 as these clash in the round of 32 today.

Uganda Premier League side Wakiso Giants will take a trip to the John Akii Bua stadium.

This will be to take on fellow UPL side, Blacks Power.

This game will take place at 4pm.

John Ayala Luyinda, Wakiso Giants coach said that he’s side is prepared to come back from Gulu with positive results.

“We are well prepared for the game. We know we are playing a stubborn side in Blacks Power and more so at their home. That implies travelling a long distance.”

“We have injuries to some of our key players but we believe the rest of the members are well prepared to represent the club well.” said John Luyinda Ayala.

Key players for the Purple Sharks such as Moses Aliro, Frank Ssebufu and Shariph Kimboowa will miss the game through injury.

Apollo Kagoogwe, Ronald Madoi and Midfielder Titus Ssematimba are all on national duty with the Uganda Hippos in Egypt for the U20 AFCON.

This is a going to be a huge clash for Hussein Mbalangu‘s Blacks Power.

HEAD TO HEAD

The club has never beaten Wakiso Giants but Mbalangu believes they will give it their all to advance to the round of 16.

“We are very ready, we have had good preparations and we want to keep the momentum from our previous games. We hope carry the day,”  said Hussein Mbalangu.

Kitara FC Vs Uganda Pentecostal University

The other game in the Uganda Stanbic Cup will see FUFA Big League side Kitara FC take on regional side Uganda Pentecostal University.

Kitara’s new coach Sam Ssimbwa is wary of the threat posed by UPU after the club ousted URA in the round pf 64.

“We should not underestimate Uganda Pentecostal University because we all saw what they did against URA. They are a good team with very good and promising young players,” said Sam Ssimbwa.

“We are determined not to lose. Especially before our fans, we have been working on a few areas that were wanting after reviewing the previous performance. We believe the players are set and know how crucial each game is.” Ssimbwa added as he vows to pick maximum points on his first game at home.

The Hoima based side however has a number of injury concerns Jamil Kiyimba, Paddy Muhumuza and Joseph Mbabali.

However, they be hoping new additions, Paul Mucureezi and Godfrey Lwesibawa step up for the occasion.
